這是鈴木一朗的一小步，卻是日本職棒的一大步！Ichiro達成生涯4000安之後，大聯盟官網、ESPN等媒體，紛紛報導：「一朗成為繼Ty Cobb、Pete Rose之後，第三位在美、日職棒一軍，敲出4000安的球員」，流露出美國對日本職棒的評價，已和MLB平起平坐。
一朗的生涯首安出現在1992年，當年他效力於日本職棒歐力士藍浪隊。「那時如果我說，要敲出4000支安打，你們一定會說我『秀斗』了，」Ichiro說，「但在日復一日、年復一年的累積安打之後，我達成了這個里程碑。」
Ichiro一向給人酷酷的印象，雖然寫下一大堆紀錄，卻又口口聲聲對紀錄不太在乎。然而，紐約客的加油聲，感動這位日本來的安打機器。
那是達成紀錄的前一天，洋基隊在跟藍鳥隊打雙重賽，第一場一朗猛打3安，紀錄聽牌，8局下再度上場，場邊球迷高呼Ichiro，為他加油。
「那個打席，球迷知道我已經聽牌，」一朗說，「球迷們一起為我加油，用這方式告訴我，他們知道我的紀錄，那感覺真好。」
一朗達成生涯4000安之後，下一個目標是什麼？Rose的4256安？「那不是我的目標，那並非我期待的，」Ichiro說，「我只想每天到球場，看看有沒有在先發名單裡，這樣才有機會大顯身手、做出貢獻。」 (接下一頁)
